Rubber Trees

Our Green Story

For over ten years, ECOsurfaces has offered a diverse portfolio of flooring patterns that make a distinct design statement without sacrificing the health of the natural environment. Even before sustainable design became an industry emphasis, ECOsurfaces was proactively using recycled material resources and engineering new environmentally sustainable surfacing solutions. With a continued commitment to upholding the environment and providing innovative product selections, ECOsurfaces Commercial Flooring makes it easy to design responsibly.

ECOsurfaces Commercial Flooring is comprised of post-consumer tire rubber and ColorMill EPDM. These materials are bound together in an elastometric network produced with a low-embodied energy manufacturing process that requires minimal water, avoids heat, and reuses in-line scrap to decrease waste. The result is a stunning environmentally sustainable surfacing collection that passes the most stringent tests for VOC emissions and indoor air quality.

ECOsurfaces is FloorScore certified, indicating compliance with rigorous indoor air quality requirements for low-VOC emissions. VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are evaluated by health-based specifications. Due to its FloorScore certification, ECOsurfaces qualifies for use in high performance schools and office buildings. It also meets indoor air quality standards for the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS), The Green Guide for Health Care, and the state of Washington, while supporting the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) E2129-05 Sustainability Assessment.

ECOsurfaces Commercial Flooring has the potential to contribute points to The United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. It is important to understand that while products have the potential to contribute points to LEED, credits are based on the performance of all the products involved in a particular project, and that there is not one stand-alone product that can guarantee you will obtain LEED credits. It is the combination, and the weight of each, that is critical. ECOsurfaces is designed to meet the stringent criteria required to earn points under 2 of the 6 categories of LEED. The products’ high recycled content and low VOC emissions allow ECOsurfaces products to assist specifiers by potentially contributing up to 9 points toward LEED certification.

ECOsurfaces is manufactured in the U.S.A. by ECORE International, North America’s largest user of scrap tire rubber. Each year ECORE recycles over 80 million pounds of scrap tire rubber, saving more than one million barrels of oil and keeping over 2,000 trailer loads of discarded tires out of the nation’s landfills.
